Ziggy Marley crafted Brightside via a creative process entirely different than anything he’s done to date, from both a songwriting and technical standpoint. The album’s eight songs were co-produced by Ziggy and his brother Stephen, and recorded at his newly built Rebel Lion Studio in Los Angeles alongside a myriad of longtime collaborators, including vocalist Nikka Costa, Trombone Shorty, Sheila E. and Jake Shimaburkuro. Most uniquely, the project was recorded using 432Hz, a soothing sonic frequency regularly employed for meditation and other mindful practices. With songs that delve into wellness and mental health, Marley shares “You see what’s happening in the world, what’s happening to people, and it really brings me down sometimes. I realized the album was going to have an introspective side to it. [The music] became my therapy.”

  • Produced by Ziggy Marley and Stephen Marley.
  • All songs written by David Marley.
  • Executive Produced by Orly Marley and Matt Solodky.

Attention please—this is a public service health announcement.

Racism is a killa x3

Hard to detect in early stages until the symptoms are seen
The only way to get rid of it inject equality
Who feels it knows it the experience is real
Oh some people have got that hateful disease

Their hearts are rejected their minds are infected
And if you think you coming down with it see the good doctor please
Relieve the tension the antidote is free
Clinically proven it’s the only remedy

Humanization let’s all get humanized
Cause when we protect each other no virus can survive
The doctor’s diagnosis everything’s gonna be alright
There’s still some infections but the numbers on our side
You know we got the medicine side effect will make you feel high
Yeah we keep on getting up on it cause love keep us alive

Now we’re slowing the spread of that hateful disease
And there is no question JAH science is real

INTERLUDE, Dance with it

Peace is the way to life, tell me who will survive
Peace is the way to life, tell me will you survive, oh yeah
No you can’t rewrite history but you can make things right, oh yeah
We just want to get together and have a good time
By the dawn’s early light
Everybody now

Racism we gon’ beat you. That’s right, That’s right
Racism we gon’ beat you Alright, Alright, Alright
Racism we defeat you Cause why, That’s why , This why

Racism is a Killa. Yeah , Yeah, Check it Check it

Racism is a Killa
Racism we gon’ beat you

Hey people now, Are you ready now
Are you ready now, To get it together now
Hey people now, Are you ready now
Are you ready now, To get it together now

And first, see there’s just one thing that you got to do, you got to do now
You can set yourself free
You can set yourself free
You can set yourself free

Hey people now, Get your satisfaction now
Get into the action now, Got a special attraction now
Hey people now, Get your satisfaction
Get you into the action , Is that a special attraction

We in a struggle, Hey you looking like good trouble
And some a M.I.A., don’t wanna be no P.O.W.
Listen to me baby

You can set yourself free
You can set yourself free
You can set yourself free

Said it feel like, it feel like I been here before
And I keep on knocking on the same old door
Waiting for a answer that baby I wanna know

And it seem like, it seems like I been here before
And I keep on knocking on the same old door
Waiting for a answer that baby I got to know

Now Now Now

Hey people now, get you into the action now
get your satisfaction now, here’s a special attraction now
Hey people now, are you ready now
Git it together now. Are you ready now
There’s too much corruption, There’s too much pollution, There’s too much confusion
There’s too much illusion, need a revelation, got to find solution, got to get into action

People get you satisfaction, People get your satisfaction, But are you ready now

Hey you looking like good trouble

Don’t get lost in the maze, Sunshine wash away my haze
You got to take it slow, You can’t get too low
Do not disturb is on my door, Out to lunch is on my window

Why let the world trouble me x3

Turn the screws
Light the fuse
And telling you things are so bad
No matter the times, Be defiance
Don’t let society control your mind
She said it’s alright, We can party all night
We live to fight again tomorrow

So come on
Why let the world trouble me x3

One day I was feeling shitty, Seen
Then that music turn
Tell me what’s wrong, Everything that’s

Come on
Why let the world trouble me x3

Can’t get lost in the maze, Sunlight wash away my haze
I’m gonna take it slow, I can’t get too low
So do not disturb is on my door, Out to lunch is on my window Yeah

Why let the world trouble me x7

INTERLUDE BOB MARLEY : Rastafari is the almighty god is not we a do it you know is god

Many mourn for Bob
So, he was young with no regret
The race was hard and he did his best
When your whole world let’s you down
Where will you turn
A ship tossed and battered by the angry sea

And he was more than a good friend
Yea he was more than heaven sent
Oh the good Lord blessed his soul
Reminisce on the days of old
The tide of time keeps raging on
You lose the battle just to win the war

Many mourn for Bob
When it’s time to have some fun
You find the tears run on down through your face
May eleventh came and the children said
Where will we turn
The stars are getting closer
Nine miles away

And it’s more than a memory
Yea, it’s more than words can say
You live the life you love Grow the wings of a dove
The light in the lamp keeps turning on
You lost the battle just to win the war

INTRERLUDE BOB MARLEY : I know I am benefit to the people you know that’s the only
consciousness I have of myself that I can be beneficial to a people. Well my life nuh

INTERLUDE BOB MARLEY : To tell you the truth you know, i am not a enormous person or a
star you know, me is just a man ah di ghetto.

How many times will the sun shine before you call me sweet divine
You make my heart say a thousand words that my lips just cannot find
How many times will the sun shine before you call me sweet divine
You make my mind say a thousand words that my lips just cannot find

When the boat come in like it’ll overturn
As the silence of man fate it burns
So emotion won’t let me walk alone
I said I don’t know not to care

How many times will the sun shine before you call me sweet divine
You make my heart say a thousand words that my lips just cannot find
How many times will the sun shine before you call me sweet divine
You make my mind say a thousand words that my lips just cannot find

And I seek my comfort in a song
I’ll cry later when the pain is gone
And the reverence of that life goes on
I never learn how not to love

Never the less how can I be prepared
For the things in life that just can’t be repaired
Every minute is like a hour
And everyday is like no other JAH

SOLO

Well, there’s not much words can do or say
When you’re not right here next to me
And things will never be the same anyway
Oh, I never learn how not to pray yeah

How many times will the sun shine before you call me sweet divine
You make my heart say a thousand words that my lips just cannot find
How many times will the sun shine before you call me sweet divine
You make my mind say a thousand words that my lips just cannot find

Let’s spend some time in the sun, Giving our love so strong
Don’t miss this ride, Make it to paradise
There is no need to be cold
Oh yeah, the heart can be bold
Open your mind and acclimate to JAH vibe

INTERLUDE

Let’s spend some time in the sun, Feeling good emotions
Don’t miss the flight, Make it to paradise
And if you’re use to the dark
Oh babe the light can be harsh
Open your eyes and acclimate to JAH sight

You know the wind blows inna different directions
That will never change my destination
It’s clear to see the path to take
Where I’m going you are also welcome
Together we will come

Make it to paradise, Make it paradise x2

Let’s spend some time in the sun, Giving our love so strong
Don’t miss this flight, Make it to paradise
And there is no need to be cold
Oh yeah, the heart can be bold
Open your mind and acclimate to JAH vibe

Let’s spend some time in the sun feeling good emotion
Dont miss this ride
Make it to paradise

Some may say I’m an optimist, Some may say I’m foolish
Some may say I’m unrealistic, And some may say I’m naive
Some may say how do you do it, and some may say take me to it

I’m living on the bright side
I’m living on the bright side
I’m living my own lifestyle
I’m living on the bright side

Now I’ve been told I dream too much by putting my head in the clouds
I’ve been told I’m going wrong trying to be a better man
And some they say why go through it, and some may they knew it

I’m living on the bright side
I’m looking on the bright side
I’m living my lifestyle
I’m living on the bright side

Some may try to bring you down saying you’re too high brow
With your silver lining and blue-sky morning
Misery likes a crowd
And some they say it’s too dangerous, and some they say show me how
You’re living on the bright side
You’re living on the bright side
When you get that feeling, give yourself a chance
Like everything under the sun there’s always a reason for life to go on
for life to go on, for life to go on, for life to go on and on and on and on

We’re living on the bright side
We’re living our lifestyle
We’re living on the bright side
I’m looking on the bright side
I’m looking on the bright side
I’m living my lifestyle
I’m living my lifestyle
Living on the Brightside
